I just dumped the camera on my phone and I couldn't resist blogging about a few things we have been doing in the classroom. I have a ton of other activities and work samples that I need to take pictures of but these are just a few things we have done!
We started working on Fiction and Non-Fiction at the beginning of the second nine weeks. We started out the unit by researching spiders and comparing some fictional spider books to non-fictional spider books. I broke the students up into two small groups and one group worked on telling me what we would find in fiction books and the other worked on telling me what we would find in non-fiction books. After doing this we all regrouped and decided how the two are same.
We did a little journal with this as well! The students had to decide which they enjoyed reading the most, fiction or non-fiction.
This was just a fun little comparing numbers activity we did on the spur of the moment! I saw it on Mrs. Lemons blog and she did it in her students math journals. I thought it would be fun to make a little craftivity out of this and my students love doing these so we went with it! The students had to roll a two digit number and then right it on the left side of their paper. They rolled again to make another two digit number and wrote that one on the right side of their paper and then of course they had to compare! Some of my little guys made some really interesting creatures and I loved seeing them!
I love Pumpkin Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington! I love to do this story every single year with my class about this time. I did it this year in my small guided reading group. We still haven't finished it so I can't wait to show you the final product that the kids are working on. We should be done this week - I hope!
Batty For Bats! I have quite a few pictures on my school camera that I need to bring home and upload! But I couldn't resist these!
First, my little firsties had to cut this guy out very carefully. Then they had to glue him in their journals and label him. Once he was labeled they had to write information that they knew about bats. This is one students journal... seriously I LOVE the writing and how she titles it! AMAZING!
Another student sample! How precious is this??
And in ELECTION NEWS!
This writing was precious! Before we voted they did a little writing - this one says: I think Mitt Romney should be president. Because he works hard. He thinks before he does stuff. He is good.
